Weekly PC sales (8/16 - 8/22)

The NPD group isn't publishing retail tracking figures anymore. It's all about digital distribution these days, as more and more gamers are content to forgo DVD's and pretty plastic packaging. The lists below provide some suggestive data on the types of games that have the ability to attract new players over the long run (particularly when prices are reduced), within a community of gamers that's more discerning than your typical Halo-tard.

The listings of the unreleased Aion and Neverwinter Nights 2 tells me something else: lots of people in the MMO crowd are looking to get the hell out of Azeroth.

Steam's Top Ten (by Revenue) (8/16 - 8/22)

  1. Left 4 Dead / Valve
  2. Aion Collector's Edition (pre-order) / NCsoft
  3. Counter-Strike: Source / Valve
  4. Killing Floor / Tripwire
  5. Team Fortress 2 / Valve
  6. Fallout Collection (F1, F2, Fallout Tactics)
  7. The Orange Box / Valve
  8. Hearts Of Iron III / Paradox Interactive
  9. Valve Complete Pack / Valve
  10. Osmos / Hemisphere Games
Direct2Drive's Top Ten (8/16 - 8/22)
  1. Champions Online (pre-order) / Cryptic
  2. Fallen Earth (pre-order) / Fallen Earth, Icarus Studios
  3. Aion Collector's Edition (pre-order) / NCSoft
  4. Rise of Flight / neoqb
  5. Civilization 4: The Complete Edition / Firaxis
  6. The Sims 3 / The Sims Studio
  7. Fallout 3 / Bethesda Softworks
  8. Hearts of Iron III with Sprite Packs Bundle / Paradox Interactive

  1. I'd be more interested in Gross Industry PC Sales ... rather than Steam horseshit. It's all about Digital Distribution huh ?
I say sure, for about 600,000 people it's all about digital distribution.
Face the music friends ! It's Console sales and MMO's .... the ones you have listed aren't even worth a discussion yet ! hehe

  2. According to my Source, NPD no longer publishes any pc sales data on a weekly basis. Steam and D2D are doing it ... wow that should give us an accurate perspective on what the industry is doing .............. NOT !
    *&*^&%&@^%$!^$^#(#$&*%)*%)_()_*(^@&@&$ !!!!!!!
NPD Still releases PC game sales on a monthly basis I believe ... and it still includes the retail sales (of course)
OR : I read a crazy ass article and they lied to me LOL
I'd rather sell my PC, pay 5000 dollars for a I MAC PowerMac something or other, and use it as a foot stool, then to put steam on my goddamn computer again.
What an invasive, pile of shit entity to have running on your PC.
I'd rather lick Jimbo's !#@ and rub his back...

  3. It seems to be difficult to track Retail PC Sales, though I see no reason to post figures from Steam without some sort of "grounding effect" in the way of actual numbers from a real source. I wouldn't trust Steam anymore than remco's ass.

Amazon can track it's in-house sales, and VGcharts tracks total sales worldwide ... but to find a replacement for NPD might be tough.
In worldwide PC Sales, I show Sims in the lead at 16 million units sold with World of Warcraft following. Weekly and Monthly PC game sales charts are slightly effected by Blizz's offering of the new Battlechest .. which definitely makes the figures for WOTLK look slimmer. In fact, WOTLK is as strong as ever, but people are purchasing the BattleChest.
Amazon ranks WOTLK 4th in sales on their in-house charts, and combined sales of WOTLK and Battlechest obliterate any competition.

    I wouldn't worry about Aion being a wow-killer.
I've read the reviews (Which are always bullshit) and I've read the forums on different sites. The posts from Beta testers are particularly interesting ... Warhammer was supposed to crush wow ...
warhammer was supposed to crush wow ... hmmmm

Let's hope someone knocks the Blizz off top - it would be good for the rest of the industry to get some of this cash that Blizz&Activision are sucking up.

  4. You should be a bit kinder to Steam. Valve is one of the few remaining "PC first" companies out there, and it's far and away the best developer for offering regular support/updates/new content for non-subscription games.

Without Steam, there would be no IT()E right now.

  5. I agree with scotty. I installed steam back in the day to try counter-strike which was a p.o.s game. anyways when i uninstalled steam it took all my non steam games with it. So i had a very bad taste in my mouth after that, but now with the friends list and updates i really took it on as a great program. Anyways teachers coming got to go.

  6. I don't like programs or applications that are invasive and controlling. Call it an aversion to authority, but I like my pc to do shit ONLY when I tell it to. Steam won't ever be an option for me. They represent such a small part of the Software industry and I hope it stays that way.
I like my DVDs and key codes ... electronic registrations and digital distribution give me the shits. Now I sound like F&^%&#@% Jimbo.
