Borderlands: in-motion

Having watched this trailer a half-dozen times, I'm finally sold on the stylized look. The combat is very appealingly over-the-top, and yet it seems pretty clear that Gearbox has made an effort to blend some "serious" FPS elements into what otherwise appears to be a furious giblet pallooza. The obvious - though probably superficial - first impression suggests that the shooter parts of the game will be something of a hybrid between Team Fortress 2 and Call of Duty 4.

Remember that Borderlands is also intended to be a story-driven RPG that allows you to piece together absurd weaponry of nearly limitless variety. We haven't seen too much about that side of the game yet, so it should be interesting to see how the two ends are integrated. A good balance between them has been rather painfully rare thus far.

  1. I haven't read anything but what you've posted here about this game, seems pretty busy at first, but after watching it again I think it's a good looking game. If that's all in-game footage and not some cinematic, it looks really nice to me.
I keep hoping we'll find a shooter that lets you blast thru the pack when you want to, and take the time to step back and pick off your targets when you want to - in other words, set your own pace.
Any multiplayer comments from Mesiah on this one ?

  2. It seems like the emphasis is on the four player co-op, but I've read that there are single- and multiplayer modes, too. With all the RPG stuff included, I doubt there will be anything like 8v8 or 16v16 CM/TDM/HQ/CTF/ETC. matches online, but I'm not sure about that.
