If you have the Source SDK (not the L4D version; the other one) and you're interested in mapping for TF2, Valve have released an update that includes the source (.vmf) files for Lumberyard, Ravine, Badlands, Dustbowl, Granary, Gravelpit, 2Fort, Badwater, Goldrush, and Hydro. They're even encouraging people to fiddle with the maps and release the altered versions.
If you're familiar with Radiant, Hammer is fairly easy to learn. The L4D version of Hammer actually allows you to import geometry from Google's Sketchup, which should be appealing to anyone who wants to make a map, but is put off by the complexity of Hammer's interface.
